Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, specialized therapy designed to support the body’s lymphatic system and encourage the natural movement of lymph fluid. Using light, rhythmic, and precise hand movements, MLD helps reduce swelling, improve lymph flow, and support the body’s natural healing and immune processes.

Unlike traditional massage, MLD works with the superficial lymphatic vessels located just beneath the skin and uses very gentle pressure to stimulate fluid movement and healthy drainage pathways. This technique is not intended to work deeply into muscles and should feel light, calming, and restorative.

MLD may benefit individuals experiencing:

• Post-surgical swelling (including cosmetic or orthopedic procedures)
• Lymphedema or lymphatic congestion
• Swelling following injury or trauma
• Inflammation and fluid retention
• Recovery after cancer-related procedures involving lymph node removal or radiation (with physician clearance when appropriate)
• Feelings of heaviness, tightness, or discomfort related to fluid buildup

Because Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specialized medical-based therapy, a health history review may be required prior to treatment. MLD may not be appropriate for certain medical conditions, including but not limited to:

• Active infection or fever
• Untreated congestive heart failure or significant cardiac conditions
• Active blood clots or deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
• Uncontrolled kidney conditions
• Certain untreated medical conditions causing swelling

If you are recovering from surgery, undergoing cancer treatment, have a diagnosed medical condition, or are unsure whether MLD is appropriate for you, we recommend consulting your physician prior to scheduling.

At Body & Soul Massage Therapy, MLD sessions are performed exclusively by Domenica Stebbins, who has completed specialized training through the internationally recognized Klose Training program. Each session is customized to your individual needs using a safe, compassionate, and clinically informed approach to recovery and wellness.

Please note: Manual Lymphatic Drainage is not a traditional massage and is performed using very light pressure. The goal of treatment is to support lymphatic function, reduce swelling, and promote healing—not deep tissue muscle work.

Ready to optimize your performance? Book your MLD massage now and let’s make your body work with you—not against you.
